OzXposure - Outback Odyssey 19 day tour

The Great Outback
The Great Outback After a stop in Adelaide, we go hiking in Mt Remarkable National Park where you can spot wild kangaroos and emus before camping in our semi-bush camp. Next stop is the Outback, we marvel at the ever changing scenery along the Stuart Highway as we head into the true outback interior and Coober Pedy. You have the opportunity to take an opal mine tour and to purchase opals from the miners themselves. In Coober Pedy, we sleep underground in a dugout motel after enjoying a night out with the locals. We cross the border into the Northern Territory and head towards Uluru (Ayers Rock) where our first view of this amazing monolith will be at sunset where you can truly appreciate the changing shades of red of this natural splendour. The following day we hike around the base of Uluru and learn about some of the aboriginal legends which abound in this World Heritage Area. There’s also a visit to the excellent cultural centre before we head off to Kata Tjuta (Tbe Olgas). At Kings Canyon, we hike along the challenging Rim Trail and see the Garden of Eden and take in the stunning views across the Canyon. Next stop is Alice Springs via Kings Creek Station where you can hire a quad bike or take a camel ride. At Alice Springs, we have a free day where you can take an optional day trip through the Western MacDonnell Ranges to see Simpson’s Gap or hike around Ormiston Gorge or visit the Desert Park or simply hang out at the pool. In the evening, there is a chance to hit the town and go for a meal or sample one of the local clubs or bars.
New South Wales and Victoria
New South Wales and Victoria Departing from Sydney, we head to Canberra – Australia’s largest city and the nation’s capital where you can enjoy a tour of Parliament House, a visit to the National Art Gallery and Lake Burley Griffen. We then head along the south coast and Lakes Entrance before arriving at Melbourne, Australia’s most cosmopolitan city. There’s plenty of time to enjoy this wonderful city – sample the diverse cuisine or catch a traditional Aussie rules football game. After leaving Melbourne, we go west along the famous Great Ocean Road – surely one of the most scenic roads in the world with its dramatic rock formations such as the Twelve Apostles and Shipwreck Coast. We cross the Victoria/South Australia border to Mount Gambier where we visit the volcanic Blue Lake and camp near Coorong National Park where there is an abundance of birdlife and wildlife including pelicans. Then we explore South Australia’s wine growing region where there is plenty of time to sample some of the local vintages in McLaren Vale!
Northern Territory Highlights
We head north again and stop at Devil’s Marbles before arriving at our ‘bush camp’ for the night. We then spend a night at Manyallaluk – an Aboriginal camp where you can learn more about this ancient culture including learning how to throw a spear or making a fire using 2 sticks. We go on a hike to learn about ‘Bush Tucker’ and you have the opportunity to purchase local Aboriginal crafts such as digeridoos and paintings ensuring all the money benefits the local community. Katherine Gorge is the next stop where you can enjoy a cruise along the beautiful natural gorges before we head to Litchfield National Park where we camp alongside a crystal clear waterfall for our final night of the tour. There is time for a swim and a walk to the base of Florence Falls before we head to Darwin.
