South and Western Australia
Our next stop is Adelaide before we cross the mighty Nullarbor Plain and go hiking in the Mt Remarkable National Park. We follow the Southern Ocean to Albany and onto the Karri forests and enjoy a glass of wine as we tour the Margaret River winery area.
We spend a few days relaxing in Perth before heading North en route to the Pinnacles and then onto Monkey Mia to see the world famous bottlenose dolphins. At Coral Bay we have the chance to soak up the sun or snorkel the coral reefs at Ningaloo Reef.
Heading inland, we spend a couple of days camping at Karijini National Park and explore the beautiful park with its many gorges and waterfalls. Our next destination is the old pearling town of Broome where you can take a camel ride on the beach before we pick up our 4WD for a two day tour through the Bungle Bungle Ranges.
Northern Territory
We cross the border into the Northern Territory and visit Litchfield National Park with its stunning scenery and amazing termite mounds! A free day in Darwin allows time for some sightseeing or just chilling out by the pool.
We head back onto the road to the ‘World Heritage Listed’ Kakadu National Park - one of Australia’s most beautiful areas of wilderness. At Kakadu, we marvel at the ancient Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie Rock and watch the sunset or take a cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong where you can spot crocodiles, birds and snakes!
Our next stop is Katherine Gorge where you can take a cruise up two of the magnificent natural gorges. We then visit an Aboriginal buffalo station where we join the locals to try some ‘Bush Tucker’ and learn how to throw a spear or make a fire. There is time for a swim at Mataranka Hot Springs after setting up camp.
Heading south we arrive at the eerie Devils Marbles in time for sunset where you can take a short hike or some stunning photographs. Join us in a hike around the rim trail at Kings Canyon and over to the Lost City and Garden of Eden before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort in plenty of time for sunset. The following day we do a guided tour around the base of Ayers Rock and learn about the Aboriginal legends that abound in this area. We then have time to explore Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) before we have some free time in Alice Springs.
The Outback and Queensland Coast
The next few days will be a real outback adventure as we cross the remote landscapes of North Eastern Queensland. We set up bush camps on the way, pass through remote mining towns and visit characteristic outback pubs for refreshments.
We cross the Atherton Table lands and arrive into Cairns where we enjoy a full day cruising the Outer Barrier Reef where you can snorkel or dive some of the best sites in the world. Mission Beach is our next destination where there are plenty of adventurous activities such as white water rafting or tandem sky-diving or visit Dunk Island for some rainforest hiking.
We continue down the coast and spend time at beautiful Airlie Beach – the gateway to the Whitsundays and to some of the most picturesque sailing in the world.
We leave the coast for a stay on our secluded cattle station. Enjoy home cooked meals and a great family atmosphere on this outback station where you saddle up a horse or ride on a motorbike and help out on this huge working cattle farm.
Heading South
We head south along the coast to Scarborough and pick up our 4WD for our 2 day tour of Moreton Island with the world’s highest sand dunes and miles of deserted beaches. We hike the trails through the inland forests and maybe spot dolphins or pods of whales in season and look at the shipwrecks before swimming in the Blue Lagoon.
Back on the mainland, we continue south and have an optional stop at Australia Zoo before arriving at Surfer’s Paradise, playground of the rich and the entertainment capital of Queensland. Take a surfing lesson or try one of Surfer’s many theme parks.
The following day we spend the morning in laid-back Byron bay where you can explore this alternative community of surfers, hippies and travellers with its beautiful beaches, café life and arts and crafts stalls. We have a final night in Coffs Harbour before we continue down the coast and arrive back in Sydney where we began our adventure over 10 weeks ago.
