Description: Surfside Location: Surfside is located directly opposite Coogee Beach. We are the only hostel situated directly across from the beach in the whole of Sydney. Coogee Beach, a hugely popular beach suburb of Sydney and only a matter of minutes from the centre of Sydney, Sydney Harbor, the Opera House and Harbor Bridge. Surfside Atmosphere & Vibe: Surfside's atmosphere is very beach life, relaxed but vibrant & we are dedicated to providing our guest's with a beach lifestyle you just can't get in the city or it's surrounding suburbs, after all you came to Australia to live on the beach not in the city. We are a very social backpackers with large balconies to meet new friends, eat, drink & watch the ocean, the beach and the cliffs either side of our beautiful beach. Surfside Beach life: Beach life not only includes heaps of relaxation but is also filled with numerous activities too, such as surfing, swimming, body surfing, rollerblading, fishing, snorkeling & diving plus heaps more. Just ask and we can provide you with most of the equipment for free. We are located right at the start of the famous Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach cliff walk/run. It's frequented by locals & tourists all slowly getting fitter whilst the Pacific Ocean washes onto the beaches and cliffs. Surfside Rooms: We offer quality bunkroom & private room accommodation all with the sound of the ocean in your ears. Here is a short description of each room: Room 1 & Room 6 are a large ocean view rooms that share a balcony facing the beach ocean & cliffs, great views of all Coogee Beach and surroundings plus Wedding Cake Island located just off Coogee Beach. Room 2 is a large dorm room & the darkest & quietest room. It is one of a few rooms at Surfside without a balcony. Great for workers & groups. Room 3, (4-8 share), Room 3a, (4 share) & Room 3b, (6 share) are all in one apartment (Apartment 3), which includes its own bathroom, TV/DVD/Playstation and a balcony facing North with views of the cliffs, ocean and beach. Apartment 3 is a female only room. Room 4 & Room 5 are large mixed dorms each with balconies facing north with views of the cliffs, ocean and beach. Room 7 (4-8 share), Room 7a (4 share) & Room 7b (6 share), are all in one apartment (Apartment 7), which includes its own bathroom & TV/DVD. This apartment does not have a balcony but has windows facing North with views of the ocean, cliffs and beach. Room 8 is a mixed 4-6 share room with awesome windows looking across the main balcony facing North with views of the ocean, cliffs and beach. Room 9 & Room 10 are large dorms with access onto our main balcony facing North with views of the ocean, cliffs and beach. Room 11 (4 share), Room 11a (4 share) & Room 11b (6 share), are all in one self contained apartment (Apartment 11) which includes its own bathroom, laundry TV/DVD. This apartment has a balcony facing North with views of the ocean, cliffs and beach. Room 12 is a mixed 4 share room with view to south Coogee which includes the southern end of the beach, cliffs and ocean with views out to Wedding Cake Island. (Please note that although we make every effort to give you the exact room requested it sometimes cannot be done. At such time we will provide you with an equal equivalent room. For example if Rm7a is requested but unavailable, Rm11a will be substituted as both these rooms are fundamentally the same.) Surfside Facilities: Surfside has a fully equipped kitchen with no deposit asked for plates, cutlery etc. With our new restaurant, Fivo's, located downstairs offering $5 meals all year round which is a favorite amongst our travelers. We also have a self service laundry room as well as offer a laundry service from a local laundry that would be happy to wash, dry & fold all your clothes returned same day for a small charge. We have a combined TV room, reception, dining room with video, DVD & every digital satellite channel available in Australia. We also have 3 pay as you go broadband internet terminals available 24hrs. Surfside Sports & Games: We have surfboards, wetsuits and rash vests available free to all of our guests from 8am to 11am every day, or for $7 outside of these hours. We also have body boards, snorkels & masks, fishing rods, roller blades, fins & cricket, soccer, rugby, volleyball gear also available free to all of our guests. (Equipment is plentiful but as always subject to availability. Please note that some equipment is located at Surfside Backpackers Bondi Beach where conditions for some of the activities mentioned above are better suited.) Surfside Office Hours: We are open from 8am to 1pm & 5pm to 8pm every day. If you arrive outside of office hours please call the number on our front entrance and the night or day manager will check you in. Surfside Check In: Check in at Surfside is generally at 11am but there are occasions where rooms are available to you immediately on arrival at Surfside. If you do arrive early & we are unable to check you in immediately we can offer you bathroom facilities, luggage storage & access to kitchen, laundry, internet & TV lounge facilities. Surfside Check Out: Check out at Surfside is 11am. Beach life is relaxed & so are we, so there is no need to get up too early, even if you have a hangover. Just take a quick swim in the ocean to cure yourselves before you continue your travels. We offer departing guests bathroom facilities, luggage storage & access to kitchen, laundry, internet & TV lounge facilities until they need to leave. We also offer 1pm and 6pm late check outs for a small charge to those who don't wish to give up there room or beds by 11am. This is subject to availability so please ask at check in. Please see our website for more details & conditions. Surfside Employment: We work hard to make sure our guests have work available if & when they need it. We have many great contacts in Sydney and locally for all trades and services. We have an employment starter pack which can be sent to you on request and is available at the front desk that has over 1000 employment agency listings, sample resumes, cover letters, and interview techniques. We also have employment information on our website. Surfside Security: To keep our guests & their belongings safe & secure we have locks on all bedrooms doors and entrances and we make sure each guests has their own correct key. We have CCTV in communal areas and provide an office safe for all valuables & a luggage storeroom for larger items for longer periods. We also have a non sexist, non racist policy ensuring that all our international travelers are comfortable at all time. Surfside Reception Services: Our friendly reception staff are trained to help new comers to Australia. Travelers themselves they can help in getting started in Australia with things such as tax file numbers, Medicare cards, medical centers, doctors, dentists and bank accounts. We can also help with faxing, photocopying, mobile phones, VIP cards, Airport shuttles, public transport information plus heaps more. Surfside Internet: Available 24 hours a day we have three pay as you go terminals in reception where you can browse the web, read & send emails, plan your travels or sell your stocks and shares. Surfside Vodafone: Surfside has a great relationship with Vodafone Australia and together we can get you mobile instantly. For those without a phone we have great packages that include a funky new phone with all the latest features, charger & sim card. Prices vary but are usually around $AUS99. For those with a phone we have two sim cards options to get you moving. The $30 sim comes with $30 credit whilst the $10 sim gives you $10 credit when you recharge for the first time. Vodafone also offer the Maxi Cap which is $AU230 worth or talk & text credit for only $AU49. This comes highly recommended by travelers as the price cannot be beaten. All of these products are available at Surfside Coogee &/or Bondi. Surfside VIP Discount Cards: The VIP card is available from Surfside and gives you discounts at hundreds of hostels, tours, travel companies all over the world. It is one of the best cards around as it accepted in more places than any other card. It's a great idea and will save you heaps of money. Surfside Activities & Entertainment: Day activities at Surfside Coogee Beach change with the seasons and are often dependant on the weather. In shoulder and high seasons we offer free snorkeling trips to local beaches, free trips to popular Watson's bay and Harbour national parks, free self guided cliffs walks between Bondi beach & Coogee beach and to from Manly beach to Spit bridge. We also offer free city trips to museums, art galleries, shopping centers, the rocks and major tourist icons. Night activities also change around during the year but expect movie nights with free popcorn, quiz nights, pass the parcel nights, crab racing, beach BBQ's, punch nights, pub crawls, neighbors nights and our famous wine, cheese and nibbles on Wednesday nights. Most nights end up in one of the famous bars that are only 50 meters away, namely the Coogee Beach Palace & the Coogee Bay Hotel. (Please notes some nights attract small charges.) Surfside Bondi Beach: Surfside Bondi Beach is the sister of Surfside Coogee Beach and if our guests wish to experience both great beach locations they can split any stay between the two locations. Surfside Swimming Pool: Our swimming pool is called the Tasman Sea or if you like the Pacific Ocean, it's not heated but it's never that cold and it stretches all the way to the United States and there's heaps of fun to be had in it, night and day, clothed or naked!!. IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Surfside Conditions: From the 24th December each year to the 2nd January each year we have a 9 night minimum therefore we do not accept bookings which are not for the whole of the period. We do not accept any check ins or check outs for the following days 25th dec, 26th dec, 27th dec, 28th dec, 29th dec, 30th dec & 31st dec during those days. Note that even if the booking engine allows your booking, it will be automatically canceled and the deposit amount not refunded by Surfside if the booking break into those dates. Surfside Cancellation Policy: Generally cancellations and/or changes must be made 48 hours prior to arrival date. You must phone us or email us to make cancellations quoting your reference number, full name and arrival date. When phoning in a cancellation please note date time and member of staff you are talking to. Please try call during Australian business hours (8am to 1pm & 5pm to 8pm) as we can't process cancellations whilst in bed or asleep. Cancellation Charges, Early departures and refunds: If you do not arrive on arrival date specified or if some of your party fail to show or cancel inside 48 hours prior to arrival we charge the first night of your stay. Bookings from 15th December to 2nd January each year we expect you to cancel or make changes by December 1st each year & charge three nights per person for no shows or late cancellations plus loss of any deposits paid. If you leave Surfside before your specified departure date you cannot receive a refund. Christmas & New Years Bookings: Christmas bookings will be asked for an additional deposit via emails sent on November 1st of each year. You must reply to this email by December 1st of each year and follow instructions to maintain your booking so please when you book use an email address that you can access from anywhere in the world. Do not use work email addresses please. Additional deposits are non refundable after December 1st each year and will be used towards balance due at check in or refunded at check in.
