Lenna of Hotel

Lenna of Hotel
Location:20 Runnymede Street View Map

Description: In 1874 Alexander McGregor - shipbuilder, Justice of the Peace, member of the Legislative Council of Tasmania and warden of Hobart Marine Board - started building a mansion to befit a man in his dignified position.

He chose golden sandstone, handmade bricks, a grand Italianate style and a site, in Battery Point, with views of Mount Wellington and the River Derwent. He wanted quiet stateliness, which now characterises the Lenna - history and modern facilities combined for your comfort.

The hotel has 50 ensuite modern rooms that adjoin the original mansion. Each has a queen-size bed and free cable television. There is 24-hour reception and room service, valet service; a guest laundry and health club discount card is available. Mr McGregor's gas-lit crystal chandelier still hangs in his drawing room - now the Lenna cocktail bar. His dining room and the former day nursery are now a larger dining room Alexander's Restaurant offering fine dining featuring Tasmanian produce and good wines.

The Lenna is just a few minutes' walk from Salamanca Place with its restaurants, funky cafes, art and craft galleries, the Salamanca Arts Centre, and just a little further on you can explore Constitution Dock, where the yachts competing in the Sydney to Hobart Race arrive each January, The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the new Hunter Street precinct.
