Description: Mandalay, this historic home in quaint Battery Point, overlooks historic Salamanca Place. The little shops of Battery Point are on the doorstep and its a two-minute walk to the galleries and restaurants of Salamanca Place and Sullivans Cove, where yachts and fishing boats bob in the small docks.

Mandalay is Gothic, built in the 1880s and National Trust classified. It was originally a coach house and stables for the nearby mansion Lenna. All its period style has been preserved but all modern conveniences are there for your comfort.

Start the day with a hearty English breakfast in the sunny dining room before you head out to explore the delights of the city. Be sure to drive to the summit of Mount Wellington for stunning views up and down the River Derwent and out to sea. On summer evenings you can join Mandalays yacht cruise - the lovely 1910 yacht Weenie sails the river while its passengers sip champagne and nibble hors doeuvres.

To make the most of the maritime experience stay in Mandalays empire suite, a recreated Edwardian ships stateroom complete with handmade furniture, garlands on the ceilings and a lifeboat on the deck. This will put you in the right mood for a visit to the nearby maritime museum - a huge collection of pictures, photos and artefacts that tells the story of Tasmanias maritime history.

After a busy day join guests by the fire in the lounge and spin a few salty tales over a glass of Titanic labelled port.
