Description: Sandy Bay's Alexandra Battery was part of Hobart's early defence system; it's now a lookout from which to admire wonderful views up and down the majestic River Derwent. Alexandra on Battery is just across the road. In Sandy Bay there is a safe beach, the Wrest Point Casino which also has a boardwalk and fine restaurants, and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania where you can admire sailing boats from all over the world. Follow the scenic drive down the channel to Taroona, climb the spiral steps in the historic shot tower and then recover your breath with a delicious Devonshire tea. In the evening it takes only 10 minutes to drive into Hobart for dinner at one of the fine restaurants, followed by a gentle stroll on the waterfront as you plan days in the city and surroundings. You can visit the museums, the galleries, the shops, Sullivans Cove, Salamanca Place, take a cruise down the river, an excursion up Mount Wellington or a drive to historic Richmond. Theres so much to see and do and the comfort and privacy of the Alexandra will make a good holiday perfect. |
