FLIGHT PRICE INDEX

The Definitive International Flight Guide To Australia

August 2007

The Flight Price Index, from www.australiatravelmarket.com, monitors scheduled airlines’ international flight fares to Australia in order to chart and predict booking trends:

BEST FARES

1. Thomas Cook have the best fare bookable online to Australia for departures from London Heathrow of £644 flying on Korean Airlines during December 2007.

2. Flights.co.uk have the best fare bookable online to Australia for departures from Manchester of £700 flying on Emirates for May 2008 departures.

3. Travelbag have the best fare bookable online to Australia for departures from Glasgow of £719 flying on Emirates for May 2008 departures.

WWW.AUSTRALIATRAVELMARKET.COM PREDICTS:

1. It is estimated that almost 20% of travellers to Australia now book their travel arrangements online with predictions that this figure will rise by around 50% over the next couple of years, with increasing sophistication of online sites, www.australiatravelmarket.com predicts that this figure is likely to continue upwards

2. With the phenomenal growth of the United Arab Emirate carrier Etihad and the news that their passenger figures have doubled to almost 2 million passengers during the first 6 months of 2007, www.australiatravelmarket.com predicts that their new Brisbane service starting in September will be a hit. Etihad’s Sydney flights began in March and have already been a great success with the service going daily in June, it’s only likely to be a matter of time before they add more Australian cities to their network.

3. Cathay Pacific have announced additional flights to Australia too with an extra service to Perth, Hong Kong - Melbourne increasing to 3 times daily and a daily service to Adelaide from October. Despite a recently reported 4.2% increase in visitors to Australia, there is likely to be a surplus of capacity to many Australian cities, www.australiatravelmarket.com therefore predicts there will be some aggressive pricing to counter this with some low fares for travel this autumn being released soon.
