FLIGHT PRICE INDEX The Definitive International Flight Guide To Australia AUGUST 2006 The Flight Price Index, from www.australiatravelmarket.com, monitors the scheduled airlines’ BEST FARES: 1. Qantas has the best fares to Australia for March 2007 departures: £618 from Heathrow; £666 from Manchester and £664 from Glasgow, all with Qantas via Ebookers and www.australiatravelmarket.com WWW.AUSTRALIATRAVELMARKET.COM’s PREDICTS: 2. Aggressive seat sales from all Australian carriers are expected to hit the market late August and September as airlines seek to increase load factors on shoulder travel periods such as early November, January, February and March 2007. For travellers wishing to depart in this period, it is recommended that they take advantage of these discounted prices as they will be limited and will increase again once the airlines have sold sufficient seats. www.australiatravelmarket.com predicts that Qantas will be particularly aggressive during these seat sales reflecting their need to fill their significant capacity on this route. 3. The price war for regional departing passengers looks set to intensify with Qantas now offering free domestic connecting flights from Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. This is a new move in response to the regional departures offered by other carriers to Australia such as Emirates. 4. Longer term, www.australiatravelmarket.com predicts that airlines will be forced to increase ticket prices in order to cover the costs associated with the increased security requirements imposed following the recent events in London. TRENDS IN AUGUST 5. Average fares to Sydney from all UK airports increased between July and August by £146, from £777 to £933. 6. £243 was the largest average price reduction and this was for April 2007 departures. Prices from London, Manchester and Glasgow were on average £968. 7. Qantas dominated the market this month and will continue to do so for all future months providing the majority of lowest fares between the UK and Australia. 8. Overall, flight prices for the coming months from Glasgow have increased by an average 15.14% 9. Flights for May 2007 had the biggest flight price increase from Glasgow, going up by £374 from £730 to £1104, an increase of 68.12%. 10. Flying from Glasgow, Qantas and Opodo hold the cheapest flights flying to Sydney. Source: www.australiatravelmarket.com · Economy return airfare to Sydney as at 01 August ‘06
