Port Douglas
Port Douglas, once of Australia’s premier resorts, lies an hour’s drive north of Cairns along the scenic Marlin Coast. Set behind Four Mile Beach, the town started life as a fishing village, booming in the 1880s Gold Rush. Now, with a cosmopolitan mix of cafes, restaurants, and shops, Port Douglas retains its relaxed village atmosphere, and provides an excellent base from which to explore the reef and rainforest of Tropical North Queensland.
