Mission Beach and the Great Green Way
The Great Green Way stretches from Cairns to Hinchinbrook Island, and incorporates rainforest-clad mountains, small towns, unspoilt beaches and islands. The small stretch of coast around Mission Beach (which covers a string of small towns including Mission, Wongaling and South Mission Beaches, Bingils Bay and Garners Beach along a 9 mile stretch of beach) is a popular stop-off point for backpackers as it offers easy access to a number of adventure activities such as white water rafting on the Tully River and parachuting. It is also a good base for visiting Dunk Island. Canoeing, cruising, fishing and hiking are also popular attractions in this area. Accommodation around the Mission Beach area ranges from island resorts to rainforest retreats and backpacker hostels.
