Australian War Memorial

Australian War Memorial
Location: Canberra
Description: The Australian War Memorial is one of the world’s great museums and a true Australian icon. It is often described as the spiritual heart of the nation, holding a special place in the hearts and minds of Australians.

Inducted into the Australian Tourism Hall of Fame, the Memorial is internationally recognised for its exhibitions, which present stories of Australians at war and during peacekeeping. Galleries include the Roll of Honour which commemorates the 102,000 Australian’s who have died while serving their country during wartime and ANZAC Hall uses state of the art multi-media, combining light, sound, images and actual relics to bring to life dramatic stories. “Must see” events in ANZAC Hall include “Strike by Night” which recreates a bombing raid over Berlin in 1943, featuring the famous Second World War Lancaster bomber G for George and the attack on Sydney Harbour by three Japanese mini submarines.
