Description:
Welcome to the 2006 “River Journey”...one of Australia’s greatest animal treks, a dynamic and unique trip of adventure, history and fun, laughter and memories that will live on forever. On Monday 19th June 2006 we set out from historic Bourke on a 710 km, 31 day amazing adventure down the full length of the Darling River with a cast of hundreds and dozens of wagons, animals and people, festivals and events organised along the way. This is one heck of a trip! The pace will be subdued, we’re not out to break records here, just 20 to 25 km per day. In a wagon just laid right back, on a horse going down the course, sitting astride a string of camels, rowing a canoe or walking too. The choice is yours and it can be varied during the trip.Anybody from anywhere can come along, the more people the merrier. You won’t need anything, not a swag, not a horse or a camel, not even a care in the world. We can look after everything. Or maybe you are fully set up with your own wagons, crew and animals in hand and all ready to go. There is a place for everyone.Age is not a problem, its up to you!!How do you feel about it? Are you up for a bit of fun and exercise`Every night there will be great entertainment around the fires, and at the small towns along the route an extra special effort will be made to make sure that the community’s festivals and parties are remembered with pride for a long time to come.In addition to experiencing the fascination of the Australian outback, you will learn bush skills, navigation techniques and develop your self-confidence, self- reliance, physical fitness and endurance. Sleeping under the stars in swags around the fire, a million miles and a trillion stars from anywhere. All logistical transport, administrative and medical support is supplied. All you have to do is travel through this fascinating and beautiful country. We start early, with two rest stops including lunch, and complete the day's travel by about 4pm. All you carry is your water container and some fruit. Food along with a boiling billy will await you at rest points on the track. Initially the days may be a little hard but once we settle into the rhythm of things, it will get easier and you will become fitter and much more in tune with the camp and the environment. The Journey will arrive in Wentworth on 20th July 2006 for the biggest wagon festival of all time, hundreds of wagons and coaches from all over Australia will converge on Wentworth for one heck of a festival. What a way to finish!!
