Miss Traills House

Location: 321 Russell Street
Description: Built by the Reverend Thomas Sharpe in 1845 soon after land was granted, the property is named after Miss Ida Traill who lived there from the early 1930s until her death in 1976.Miss Traill was a descendant of early settlers in the region. The house is furnished to present her significant collection of artifacts relating to four generations of the Lee family. Together with her own furniture, horse-racing memorabilia, paintings and ceramics, they are intrinsically linked to the house and also to the early history of Bathurst, one of Australia`s first major country towns.Miss Traill`s garden includes a horse paddock, a feature once common in the cities and towns of New South Wales. It also features a herb garden and well established grounds planted with colourful `cooler climate` shrubs and flowers.
